Helping is the New Selling

It’s time to forget everything you know about selling. Okay, maybe not everything. But there is one simple phrase you need to think about: Helping Is The New Selling. Selling brings you a customer today, right now. But being helpful creates a customer for life - and that’s what builds your brand and creates that flow of repeats and referrals. Let’s dig into four simple steps you can take to be more helpful and less “salesy” while educating and empowering your sphere.

Step #1: Do Your Research. This step is identifying your customers’ needs. What content will they find helpful? What do they need? How can you make their purchase or sale decision easier and more informed?

Step #2: Curate or Create. Now that you have a list of needs, it’s time to start curating or creating some content that informs, educates or helps with those topics. The point is to share (or create!) content that will be helpful vs. salesy.

Step 3: Plant the Seed. This step is about making sure your helpful content is planted in the path of potential and current clients. You’re planting seeds, any of which could take root and grow into a new business, so you want to make sure they’re given every chance to thrive.

Step #4: Measure and Adapt: The needs of consumers may change, and new technologies may make it easier for you to be helpful to your potential and current clients. This step is a reminder to always measure how things are working and be ready and willing to adapt.

Follow these 4 tips and you’ll be on your way to creating valuable, helpful, engaging content that helps you stay top-of-mind when it’s time to buyor sell.
