5 Texting Tips for Real Estate Pros

We spend a lot of time talking about email marketing but what about texting? There are so many under-used features that real estate agents should be incorporating in their communications.

1. Text a video or audio file- Plenty of people send typical text- based SMS messages, but there are other, more personal options available! If you’re following up with a new lead or setting an appointment reminder, try sending out a quick video. In a time when automation seems even more impersonal than usual, this direct and personalized approach could help you forge a deeper connection. If you have a longer update to share with an active client but you know they’ll never listen to an old-school voicemail, record an audio message and follow up with a quick text.

2. Build out a set of text message scripts for any situation- Stats show that emails have a 6% response rate, while text messages have a response rate of 45%. So the next time you’re considering drafting an email to a potential client, reconsider. Shorten up your message and send it as a text instead.

3. Send a sneaky text... Even if you only have their email address- I’d recommend you use this one sparingly, but it’s a great option for when you don’t have the phone number for a new lead. If you have an iPhone, you can typically send an iMessage- those are the ones that show up in blue within your texts- to their email address instead.

4. Be ready to text your Linktree URL- Have you ever gotten a text from a past client or friend, asking for your website so that they can refer a friend your way? But what ONE link do you send prospects to help them understand your business, your value, your personality? With Linktree, you don't have to choose just one link. Instead, the service helps you create an easy landing page that links out to your website, social channels, reviews, blog, and more.

5. Send GIFs for extra pizazz- Can't quite find the words to express your emotions? It’s easier than ever to send funny and relevant GIFs right from your phone’s keyboard.

Proper text etiquette says: Only text at a time when you would call someone, don’t text messages for drip email-style messaging, don't just copy and paste an email, and although texting is a fast way of communicating- it doesn’t excuse typos.
